Can you hear it?

This past weekend I attented a retreat at Brushcreek Camp. It was a great weekend, a good chance to hang out with people I don't see very often. For some reason though, this place always makes me want to take a walk by myself. I was walking across the bridge one night alone, and I was just struck with an urge to almost cry, but I was happy, if that makes any sense. I just felt God's presence so strongly so I just stopped and stood there and listened. I was amazed at all the things I heard once I was still.
I had been watching people all weekend and noticed how busy we have all become. Someone was constantly talking, or playing, or listening to music, or doing something. I have noticed this not only at the retreat but everywhere lately. When do people take time to just stop and listen? There is always the tv, radio, internet, ipod, something going on to take our attention. All these are great things and I have one of all of them but when do I quiet myself to hear what God has to say. I love to just go and sit outside by myself. There is so much to hear that you would never notice unless you take the time. God has created a symphony for each of us and I wonder how it makes Him feel when we just whistle right on by with our own agendas and never give Him or His creation a second thought. I don't think God wants to compete for our attention, I don't think He wants to shout over the noise that we create. I think He wants to whisper His love to us when we still ourselves before Him. Can you hear it?

Cousin Linda - awesome! In regards to your baby blogger post, I have a great quote from an author (whose name I can't remember)"judging yourself, criticizing yourself, censoring yourself, is no way to make art. You have to take the chance that somebody is going to misunderstand and get ticked off. . . the purpose of art, to help people feel more human." So you go girl, and write whatever is in your heart!

wow baby girl....you are truly a child of my heart. Those are some of the exact thoughts I have been having myself lately. Perhaps God is wooing us to draw near to Him and shut out some of the noise more often. thanks for sharing.
    I love you!
