Loons!!

For those of you that know me pretty well, you know I collect moose and loons. I have never seen a live one of either of these until this morning that is! I met Tom Ulrich (he's a famous photographer) this morning and we went canoeing in Half Moon Lake, to try and find some loons. We hadn't been out there but maybe 10 min. and I saw a couple out in the middle of lake and he got all excited and looked through his binoculars to be sure and it was a pair of them! So we slowly and silently started making our way over to them and we got within 20 feet of them, he had an electronic caller and got them to call to us! It was so amazing. It is rare first of all to see a loon in the wild but to see a pair, and get that close to them, and hear them call is extremely rare. To me that sound is the ultimate call of the wild. Now I just have to see a moose and my trip will be complete!
I put on here my 2 favorites that I got. The bird on the left I just love, it turned and looked at me right when I snapped the picture. The one by itself, is in mid-call. What a day!!
